A little Western

Yesterdays look was a bit western themed (being a western girl myself coming from Utah, even though it doesn't show very often).

I originally started out wearing my cowboy boots (because what's more western than cowboy boots?) but it was actually too warm outside, so I took the opportunity to wear flats instead. I love picking one theme to tie my outfit around - here it is brown leather (necklace, belt, flats).

Jeans: Fishbone Denim
Flats: American Eagle
Belt: Sundance (which I believe my older sister bought 15 years ago)
Necklace: One of a kind piece from a man making them on a table outside the Seattle Aquarium. I love random finds like that. Street vendors have incredible pieces.
Ring: Citrine from The Dancing Crane in Salt Lake City (the BEST place to go for gemstone and silver jewelry).

I love love LOVE printed jeans!

Twisted Waves

So I know yesterday I said that I would put up a twisted top-knot tutorial, but change of plans due to a 3:30 am wake-up call for the Bremen Flomarkt (the flea-market).

So here is a fabulous, wet-hair-in-the-morning-out-of-time quick style, that looks great, and even better the second day!

Start by twisting each side of your hair back. If possible, avoid putting in an elastic to make a pony tail, it will leave a kink. Take the two twisted strands and join them, then continue to twist to make a bun. As usual, I use a bit of hairspray, or a mousse, whatever product works best for your hair!

My bun is usually off to one side, because it is easier for me to twist one side longer than the other.

Wear your hair all day, let it dry (or if you want you can dry it with a hair dryer to get this right away.

Then when you take your hair out at the end of the day, you have great waves for going out for dinner and drinks with the man!

Fringe Necklace: H&M
Ombre Jeans: Fishbone
Cardigan: August Silk

Then, the next morning when you wake up to go gardening, you can have looser waves for that laid back chill look. If you want the same strong look you had the day before, spray your hair with a stiff hairspray, twist back into the original style, and blow dry for 2 minutes or so. You will have the same looks without the 'bed head' feeling.

Sometimes no shoes, are the best shoes. Don't forget the fashion in nature.

If you need any other pictures of how I twist it (or do it by myself without asking my husband to hold the twist) leave me a comment and I will recreate it with more pictures.

Braided Top Knot

So here is my first hair tutorial! Top knots are so fun right now (they are like that purple piece in tetris that you can change in four different directions).

They are really easy too! This one works great if you have thick hair, and if it is day-old and a bit crazy (like mine today)!

I first make a high pony tail. Bending over makes it easier to get it high, and include all the little hairs in the back.

Then, braid the pony tail, and secure with a small elastic. It's that easy.

Once your braid is finished, start wrapping it around.

When you are done wrapping, push in a few bobby  pins to secure the end. I buy ones similar to my hair color so they are less obvious. Also, with the small elastic at the end, just tuck it under the last loop of your braid. I don't wrap it too tight so I can play with it a bit (tuck in edges, make it bigger, etc)

Finishing by spraying down any little fly-aways. I love this Nivea Hairspray - Even though it says Level 4 it doesn't leave your hair crunchy. I use it for every hair style. Plus, the Diamond Gloss version has a nice bit of shine to it, but not greasy. Perfect.

Please comment with any questions or ideas!

Today's outfit includes:
Jeans: H&M
Pullover: Primark
Earrings: Beach shop in Manly Australia
Shoes: Converse

I love using color eyeliner, so so fun! Inner eye is lines with green, while the outer eye is lined with a dark eggplant purple. Dark purple is the best alternative to black. It is still dramatic without being harsh.

Come back tomorrow for a new twisted top knot and a new way to wear the sweater!

April 22

Today is just some simple laid back orange shorts, cowboy boots, and a fun berry necklace.

I love cowboy boots, without fail one of the most diverse pairs of shoes: dresses, jeans, skirts, shorts, everything works. Splurge a little and buy a nice, simple, real leather brown pair. I bought these Born boots almost 7 years ago and they still look incredible! The leather has lost a bit of its stiffness so they longer sit as high up on my calf, but now they are a great slouchy style boot.

I used some of my Totally Beachin' spray again today - when my hair was dry though, not wet.

Glasses are Vera Bradley

Today's makeup is pretty simple - all is did was blend some orange from the outer eye, into a bit of brown from the inner eye. Lipstick is Sweet Metal by Essence.
